About This Coin:
The Swiss 20 Franc Gold Coin, also known as the Swiss 20 Franc Vreneli is undoubtedly one of the world’s most dignified and classically designed Swiss gold coins. Because Switzerland has always practiced buttressing its currency with gold, Switzerland has long been known as one of the most financially stable and powerful countries in the world. The Swiss Francs are sometimes called “Swiss Miss,” from the obverse design with the maiden Vrenelli’s face adorning it. She has braided hair and is wearing a string of flowers, with the majestic Swiss Alps looming behind her. The Swiss 20 Franc coin’s reverse shows the Swiss shield, featuring the Swiss Cross, and a wreath of oak bordering the shield. The coins were minted at the Swiss Mint at Bern and the coins are mint marked with a “B”.

The Swiss gold coin most commonly known as the Swiss 20 Franc displays the profile of a Swiss woman, more commonly known as Vreneli, with braided hair, wearing flowers and facing left. Above her head are the words “Helvetia”, another common name for this particular coin. The opposite side of the coin displays the familiar Swiss shield over an oak branch that has been tied with ribbons and includes the denomination and the date.

The Swiss 20 Franc Gold coin was minted in Bern and consists of 90% gold. Altogether, the coins were struck from 1897 to 1949, but not in every year. These lovely coins are an excellent choice for coin collectors and gold bullion investors alike, and remain a high value for the price.
